I bought my current car when my son was about 5 months old. I had always wanted an SUV and thought I had better do it before my environmental side (what small one there is) talked me out of it. So I got a used Pathfinder and I have loved having it. I feel like I am on vacation every time I get in the car.
When the twins came along, I thought for sure I would have to ditch my SUV to get a more useful minivan. But then, when I determined all three carseats fit across, I was thrilled.
Then when my son started preschool and I realized field trips and carpooling would soon become a big part of my life, I got scared again that a minivan was in my future.
Then I found this place: Little Passenger Seats in Modesto and was delighted that they could custom make a third row for my Nissan. I spent about $800 for the new seat which was about $28,000 less than I would have spent on a new car.
I drove out to Modesto today (rather than installing it myself, which is very possible), and picked it up. The kids love sitting backward and people seem to get a kick seeing them in the "trunk". Two carseats fit nicely on the seat which means I can now I can drive 5 kids around and still feel like I am on vacation. I highly recommend Little Passenger Seats!

interesting - so the add-on faces backward? I know many car seat manuals (or, at least the ones for all the seats my kids have had) say that their car seat can't be installed on vehicle seats that are facing backward or sideways - this was why we ruled out the Volvo wagon with the flip up third row when we were car shopping 3-4 years ago. Did the Little Passengers seat salespeople say anything about whether these seats are approved for use with child restraints?
Yup, approved for carseats (boosters and toddler seats, not infant seats). But, the seat can actually turn forward too. I just chose to have it backward for the ease of getting in. Obviously, there is no latch system with this seat.
